When you first decided you wanted to start thinking about building your own home I’m willing to bet the thought of where to start was overwhelming. There are so many little details that go into making your home perfect, that you can feel pressured to do things in the absolute right way.
Even though it’s easy to stress about the planning, we’re giving you some steps to take to avoid the hassle. These five steps plan out the most important parts of building a home and give you ease of mind.
Step 1: Pick a Location
Maybe you already have a location in mind, but then again, maybe you don’t. Figure out where you want your future home to be. Get the opinions of family, friends, colleagues, but ultimately, have it be someplace you’re going to love waking up to every morning. What do you want in an area? A nice playground for the kids? A short drive to the supermarket? How much land do you think you’re going to want? These are all factors to take into consideration when picking out where you plan to build. Take your time and don’t rush the process of picking out the perfect spot. There are plenty of destinations to choose from, so make sure to do it right.
Step 2: Pick a Plan
Here’s where most people spend a huge chunk of time planning. Picking a plan and then deciding you hate the plans only to switch them again. This is your home and can be perfectly catered to your needs. Try to stick to a budget and see what you can include for that budgeted price. Will you need your home to be wheelchair friendly for the future? How much space are you going to need vs how much space do you want? Ask yourself as many questions as possible. You can always renovate in the future, but why bother with the effort when you can do it all now. Try to take everything into consideration and really think about what it is you want.
Step 3: Choose a Builder
Daniel Builders is a family owned custom homebuilder and can help with any home building questions and concerns you may have. Finding a builder you trust and will do a wonderful job. We have a Houzz site that showcases some of our work and what you could potentially be getting. Whoever you choose to build your house will be around for a while, so be sure to choose the right person!
Once you’ve got your builder, it’s time for the concrete foundation! Check out Cash Concrete at http://www.cashconcrete.com.
Step 4: Financing
Financing is a very important step in making sure you’ll be able to afford your dream home! Financing is what makes all the magic happen even though it may not feel that way sometimes. Get with your bank to ensure you have the proper funding and will be able to afford this because you don’t want to get halfway done and run out of a way to pay for this wonderful build. Grin and bear it because financing is a necessary part of the equation and you’ll need it.
Step 5: Get your Interior/Exterior planned out
This is another one of the most fun steps because you have unlimited creativity (well, maybe your budget says otherwise). You can do it all on your own, or have a professional designer step in and help out with their expertise. Take into account color themes, how much you’re willing to spend, and what luxuries you want to indulge in. When thinking about the exterior of your home you’ll want to think about bricks, walkways, landscaping, shingles, roofing, etc. There are a lot of pieces that take time to pick out that will make your house look like a home. As far as the interior of your home goes, you’ll need to pick out faucets, furniture, paint, appliances, and everything else. Basically everything AND the kitchen sink!

A home build can be stressful, chaotic, and ultimately completely worth it. In the end you get the home you’ve always dreamed of living in. Be sure to keep these steps in mind and create a game plan for your build. Once you have a solid plan it will be easier to focus on the task at hand and not worry about everything else going on. Your home will be built before you know it and you can look back and be thankful you had a plan to make the process easier.
